We all know that increasing your online traffic is the most essential requirement to a successful internet based business. Without online traffic, you have no business.

Aside from ensuring that you have a great product to sell, you must channel your efforts to generating online traffic. You can have the greatest product in the world but if you don't have any traffic to buy it, you are dead meat.

If you already have a website and you are not getting the online traffic that you're supposed to be getting, then its time to take action and remedy the situation.

The big three of search engine advertising is:

Google's Adwords, Yahoo's Search Marketing and MSN's Search Marketing provide great advertising schemes that are very popular and just about assures almost immediate traffic.

Although these are surefire ways to increase your traffic, there is definitely a learning curve involved. There are costs involved and without a thorough understanding of the workings of your campaigns, they could be very substantial.

Exchange or trade links with other sites for traffic.

Exchanging links with other sites, especially from sites with a PR of 6 or above, will definitely boost your own PR rating and when your PR goes up, your traffic has already increased.

Use Viral Marketing to build traffic

Viral marketing allows you to spread the word about your company or product, usually without any costs or very low costs. This is a marketing method that can be quite effective.

You can attach your company's name, product or link to a valuable item, such as a informative report, a powerful EBook, or a gossip or buzz. The main thing to remember with this viral method is, you must be offering something of value, not junk, or it will not be forwarded.

Write articles with niche specific keywords.

Write and submit articles that contain keywords specific to the niche site you are promoting. This is the key to getting your site indexed by the search engines and then clicked on by visitors searching for the information reflected by your keywords.

Also, in the signature box, you will leave a hyperlink to your target website.

Join forums and online communities for added traffic.

Most all forums have a policy regarding advertizing and/or text links. Most allow at least one line and some four lines of hyperlinks to sites. This is an excellent means of increasing your website traffic as, hopefully, the forum is on a niche that your site is about.

Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization is the method of using keywords in the title of your webpage, the meta tags, the meta description, the body of the site, that all mirror the keywords used by a visitor that uses the search engine to find the needed information contained on your site. In other words, use specific keywords or keyword phrases for your sites content.

Search Engines are interested in the relevant content on your site. If that content matches the search, you might show up on the search engines first page results. But don't count on it!

Advertise in ezines and newsletters

This is probably the most overlooked means of increasing online traffic.

There are many, many ezines being disseminated throughout the internet and there is obviously one that will match your niche. Just find those ezines that interest you, review them and choose one that matches your requirements.

I would suggest using the Solo Ad or the Sponsor's ad. They're a little more money but worth it.
